Weekend Summary 26th/27th May

The final weekend in May was a much quieter one for all Vikings, with only 3 Vikings taking part in events.  We do also have 2 results that were missing from previous weeks to report on.

First, the missed results.  There have been a number of junior events recently, and unfortunately Daniel Campbell’s results were missed from a couple of them.

Daniel first took part in the Wakefield Duathlon, on 13th May.  On the hilly course Daniel put in another great race, finishing in 17th place in 00:17:25.

Next up for Daniel was the LBT Junior Aquathlon, where he competed along with the other 88 competitors in his category.  In a time of 00:08:17, Daniel finished that race in an amazing 8th place, well and truly grabbing hold of 1st position in the Junior Boys Club Championship.  Brilliant results Daniel, well done!

Into last weekend, after a few weeks of triathlon events, we just had runners out this weekend, with a handful of runners moving up their respective Run Championship leaderboards.

First up were Lucy Jamison and Stacey Calvert, who took part in Selby Parkrun on Saturday.  Lucy improved on her time from the previous week, finishing the race in a brilliant 00:26:07.  Stacey also had a good race, finishing in 24th place in 00:23:19.  Stacey’s result saw her take the lead in the Women’s Run Championship, and Lucy’s result moved her up to 2nd place in the Junior Girl’s Run Championship, just 0.87 points behind the leader!  Great running both!

On Sunday, Beth Grogan took part in the Humber Bridge 10k.  The race was very competitive, with 375 people taking part.  Beth put in another great run, finishing the race in 00:47:17.  That result also getting a big jump up the Women’s Run Championship leaderboard, pushing Beth into 3rd place. Well done Beth!

Weekend Summary 19th/20th May

Another busy weekend for all Vikings to report on this week, and in addition to that, a nice weekend away for a number of the team!

The competitions at the club have really started to get going, with a number of changes to report on this week at the top of our leaderboards, following a number of impressive results.

Starting with the runners, on Saturday we had a number of people out taking part in their Saturday Parkrun events.   Claire Dunham raced at Goole, and Shelley Jamison, Lucy Jamison and Stacey Calvert all raced at Selby.  Some great runs from everyone, with their times as follows:

  • Claire Dunham – 00:32:46
  • Shelley Jamison – 00:22:59
  • Lucy Jamison – 00:26:18
  • Stacey Calvert – 00:24:10

Great running everyone!

On Sunday, we had our first participant in the Junior Boys Run Championship, with Finn Greenhouse taking part in the York Junior Parkrun.  Finn not only finished in a very impressive time of 00:08:20 in 3rd place, but then went back from the finish line to run with his brother to the end of the race.  What with Lucy Jamison putting in a brilliant time at York Parkrun, and Finn running the Junior Parkrun twice, it’s safe to say these juniors have far too much energy!!  Well done Finn and Lucy.

Into our first triathlon action of the weekend, and Anne Lewis and Beth Grogan were both racing at Nottingham Sprint Triathlon on Saturday.  In an incredibly competitive race of 737 people, both Anne and Beth put in a couple of great races, finishing in 01:42:29 and 01:19:26 respectively.  Well done both!

Also racing over the weekend was Alana Reveley, taking part in the LBT Junior Aquathlon.  Alana was racing in her 4th Club Championship qualifying race of the season, so was looking to improve on one of her other 3 scores.  Alana finished her race in 00:09:50, and took up 1st place in the Junior Girls Club Championship standings.  Well done Alana!

For the main event of the weekend, a number of Vikings had a great weekend away in a sunny Southport, racing in both Sprint and Standard distances on the Sunday, in a race qualifying for Great Britain Age Group teams for 2019.  The weekend was a huge success all round, and great fun in the process.

In the Sprint distance race, Rob Jamison, Dave Burrows, Sarah Weston, Paul May, Kenton Robbins, Susie Foster, and Kath Cooke all took part.  Their results were as follows:

  • Rob Jamison – 01:09:06
  • Dave Burrows – 01:15:47
  • Sarah Weston – 01:17:50
  • Paul May – 01:19:20
  • Kenton Robbins – 01:40:43
  • Susie Foster – 01:43:47
  • Kath Cooke – 01:43:49

In the Standard distance race, Steven Dews, Shaun Sumner, Mark Wilson, Charlotte Moore, Heather Blakey, Lorna Watson and Helen Dews all took part.  Their results were as follows:

  • Steven Dews – 02:12:33
  • Shaun Sumner – 02:34:22
  • Mark Wilson – 02:35:37
  • Charlotte Moore – 03:07:05
  • Heather Blakey – 03:12:24
  • Lorna Watson – 03:28:05
  • Helen Dews – 03:33:41

Some great racing from everyone once again, well done all!  Here’s to the next Vikings weekend away!

Special mentions to Rob Jamison and Sarah Weston, who were both looking to qualify for the Great Britain Age Group teams at this event.  Both finished within their required standard, and Rob finished in the top 4 in his Age Group.  Well done Rob for qualifying, and fingers crossed Sarah!

In the Club Championships, Southport and Nottingham saw a huge shift around in standings after the event.  Beth Grogan took up the lead in the Women’s Club Championship, following her great result at Nottingham.  Heather Blakey’s standard distance result gave enough points to take up the lead in the V40 Age Group category, but Charlotte Moore, Susie Foster, Lorna Watson and Helen Dews all having good races too, they are not too far behind.  That is sure to be a very competitive category this season.

In the Men’s competitions, Steven Dews took the lead in the Men’s Championship, with Shaun Sumner now taking up a commanding lead in the V30 Age Group category.  Rob Jamison isn’t too far behind in the overall standings, but now has a big lead in the V40 Age Group category.

Weekend Summary 12th/13th May

After our first club event at Driffield, you’d excuse YVTT for deciding to take a bit of time off.  Well, not our Vikings! Everybody was straight back to it over the course of the past couple of weeks, taking part in both triathlon and running events.

The first result to report on was missed from Driffield.  Sarah Jones also competing at the event, adding to the brilliant performances of the day, finishing the event in 01:31:44.  A belated well done Sarah!

On the Tuesday following Driffield, Mark Wilson and Dave Burrows took part in Tadcaster 10k, part of the York Summer League.  Both put in good races, finishing in 00:46:16 and 00:44:10 respectively.  Well done!

Into last weekend, and we had a large number of Vikings all out competing on the 13th.  In the Evolve Sprint Triathlon, Lorna Watson, Helen Dews and Anne Lewis all got their first points logged of the season in the Women’s Club Championship.  They finished their races in:

  • Lorna Watson – 01:42:02
  • Helen Dews – 01:45:26
  • Anne Lewis – 01:49:28

Well done ladies!

Our juniors were also out competing, with Alana Reveley and Martha Moore taking part in Wakefield Junior Duathlon.  Both put in brilliant races, finishing close together in 25th and 26th places.  Alana finished her race in 00:18:48, with Martha not too far behind in 00:18:53.  Well done girls!

Our runners were also out over the weekend, with Shelley Jamison, Stacey Calvert and Mark Wilson all taking part in Leeds Half Marathon.  All 3 put in some great runs with Mark finishing the race in 01:41:58, and Shelley and Stacey crossing the line together in 01:58:18.  Shelley’s result meant we have a new leader at the top of the Women’s Run Championship. Well done all!

In Heslington Parkrun, Sarah Jones was also running, competing in a competitive event with 263 other runners.  Sarah put in another good performance, finishing the 5km race in 00:27:18.  Well done Sarah!

Over the course of the last week, Beth Grogan has taken part in back to back races, on 15th and 16th May.  On 15th, Beth completed the East Hulls Harriers 4 Mile race in a great time of 00:28:57, and on the 16th, followed up with another impressive result in the Askern 10k, finishing that race in 00:46:55.  More great running Beth, well done!

Club Championships Update

Some exciting news to share!  Effective immediately, our club competitions have now expanded to host male and female championships in both Adult and Junior age categories.

It is extremely important as a club that everybody has equal opportunity to compete for the end of season prizes, and this change opens our club competitions up to a lot more friendly competition, and a lot more prizes on offer!

Our website has been updated with a new section displaying all current competition standings, please take a look!

And the good news doesn’t stop there.  Since there has been no change to how our competition points are scored, the addition of Men’s and Women’s competitions can be back-dated, and our Roll of Honour has been updated with our Past Champions.  A very belated congratulations to all who have made our list!

Bank Holiday Weekend Summary 5th to 7th May

It’s safe to say as the season as started for YVTT, the reports each week have consistently mentioned one thing – how cold it has been!  Well, not this week Vikings!  The weather does seem to have gone from one extreme to the other, with tough conditions for all competitors once again, but for different reasons.  That said, the sunshine is a much nicer problem to have!

On a very hot bank holiday weekend, we had Vikings taking part in both duathlon and triathlon, across Junior, Youth, and Senior age groups.  Vikings out in force!

Starting on Saturday, Rob and Shelley Jamison, and Steven Dews all took part in the rearranged Clumber Park Duathlon, which also hosted the Triathlon England National Championships.  This meant for a very competitive field, but that didn’t faze any of the Vikings taking part.  Very impressive results as follows:

  • Steven Dews – 02:07:44
  • Rob Jamison – 02:20:25
  • Shelley Jamison – 02:32:36

All 3 Vikings received our first bonus points of the year, with National Championships counting for + 15% on scoring.

On to Sunday, and what proves to be an extremely popular Vikings event every year.  So much so, it also qualifies as our first club event of the year for both Juniors and Seniors, scoring + 10% in bonus points.  27 YVTT competitors took part in Driffield Triathlon, not only all coming in with brilliant results, but with a handful of age group winners in the process.

The Youth and Senior results from the Driffield event were as follows:

  • Shaun Sumner – 01:05:35
  • Dave Burrows – 01:05:56
  • Paul May – 01:08:22
  • Sarah Weston – 01:09:19
  • Pawel Celinski – 01:10:22
  • Heather Blakey – 01:12:16
  • Charlotte Moore – 01:15:01
  • Lucy Foster – 01:31:43
  • Susie Foster – 01:35:42
  • Claire Dunham – 01:37:53
  • Jonathan Foster – 01:38:25
  • Catherine Bendelow – 01:44:42

Junior results from the afternoon’s races were as follows:

  • Tristart – Rebecca Weston – 00:14:19
  • Tristart 1 – Daniel Campbell – 00:20:00
  • Tristart 1 – Alana Reveley – 00:22:19
  • Tristart 1 – Martha Moore – 00:23:14
  • Tristart 1 – Ilanah Bendelow – 00:26:43
  • Tristart 1 – Kaja Celinska – 00:29:25
  • Tristart 2 – Finn Greenhouse – 00:31:56
  • Tristart 2 – Olivia Bulmer – 00:34:30
  • Tristart 2 – Ella Wright – 00:36:08
  • Tristart 2 – Dominic Weston – 00:37:39
  • Tristart 2 – Lucy Jamison – 00:39:33
  • Tristart 2 – Harry Blakey – 00:40:25
  • Tristart 2 – Peter Foster – 00:43:11
  • Tristart 3 – Joshua Weston – 00:42:37
  • Tristart 3 – Gracie Wright – 00:49:41

Some of the Vikings highlights were as follows:

  • Shaun Sumner was our fastest Viking of the day, finishing within the top 20 in a reported 17th place (I say reported, as it was actually 16th, since the 12th place slot was a relay team!).  This was in a race of 234 competitors, no mean feat.
  • Dave Burrows made the most of all the transition practice, saving plenty of time in the changeovers, placing 9th overall in T1 time, and 7th overall in T2 time.  A total time of 01:37 for both transitions.
  • Paul May was our fastest swimmer of the day, being the first Viking out of the water!
  • Sarah Weston won her Age Group for the second year running!
  • Pawel Celinski was just 1 minute from an Age Group podium place, finishing in 4th place in his category.
  • Heather Blakey finished 2nd in her Age Group.
  • Charlotte Moore was also close to a podium Age Group finish, finishing in 4th place in her category.
  • Lucy Foster finished 2nd in her Age Group, a mere 1 second behind the category winner.
  • Rebecca Weston took part in her very first triathlon event, and looked like she’d done many before that, finishing in a very impressive 14th place in the tristart race.
  • Daniel Campbell finished in 2nd place in the tristart 1 race, just 29 seconds behind the race winner.
  • Alana Reveley continued her great race form, with a top 10 finish in the tristart 1 race.
  • Another newcomer to swim, bike, run was Ilanah Bendelow, looking like a natural in the tristart 1 race, and finishing with a great result.
  • Kaja Celinska also took on a triathlon event for the first time, putting in a very impressive performance in the tristart 1 race.
  • Peter Foster moved up age categories for this year, and raced over the longer distance for the first time.  This would be hard enough on it’s own, but with the hot conditions taking their toll, and coping with an unexpected fall, it was made even harder.  A great performance Peter, well done!
  • Joshua Weston finished in a very impressive 6th place in the tristart 3 race, putting in the 4th fastest run of his race.

Those were just some of the highlights on another brilliant Vikings day.  As well as those highlights, there were some amazing results across the board, and results that everybody in the club will be very proud of!  Every single Viking performed incredibly well.

It wasn’t just the individual performances that were of note over the course of the day.  Driffield Triathlon was also a family affair, with competitors from multiple generations taking part.

3 generations were represented in the Foster family, with Susie’s Dad also taking part as an honorary Viking for the day.  Michael Jones finished the event in 2nd place in his Age Group, in a time of 01:48:46.

With Rebecca now kick starting her triathlon events, the Weston family also took centre stage, with Sarah, Rebecca, Dominic and Joshua all putting in very impressive results.

With Driffield complete, we don’t have long to wait until the next Vikings outing, with a number of the team taking part in the upcoming Southport Triathlon, over both Sprint and Olympic distances.

Amongst all the achievements, if there’s one thing we can all be very proud of, it’s how far this club has come in a short space of time.  27 competitors taking part in this event, and even more there cheering them on.  Driffield Triathlon was a prime example of the friendship and camaraderie present within the club, with everyone cheering each other on to success, all summed up in one photo:

Well done everyone!

Weekend Summary 28th/29th April 2018

Some extremely impressive results to report on in this week’s race round up, with some high places, fast times and big points scored by a number of Vikings members.

The first of those was a missed result from a few weeks ago.  Matt Archibald started his season off with a bang, finishing in a podium spot in the Epworth Triathlon.  Matt finished his race in 2nd place from 84 entrants, in a time of 00:59:00.  Brilliant start to the season Matt, well done!

The second missed result was in the Run Championship, with Shaun Sumner scoring points at Goole Parkrun.  On 21st April Shaun finished the 5km race in a PB time of 00:19:45, taking a big leap up the Run Championship standings in the process with his 2nd result of the season.  Well done Shaun!

Into last weekend, and our first competitor of the weekend was Alana Reveley.  Our Junior Run Championship leader has already logged 3 run results for the season, so was on the lookout for some improved points.  Alana did exactly that, finishing her Parkrun in 00:28:53 to increase her lead at the top.  Great run Alana well done!

On Sunday 29th, three of the Vikings Club Championship favourites were out taking on Brigg Triathlon, on what was reported to be an extremely cold day.  Matt Archibald, Steven Dews and Rob Jamison all braved the cold temperatures, finishing the race in 5th, 9th and 17th places respectively.  Some very impressive racing, their times were as follows:

  • Matt Archibald – 00:58:48
  • Steven Dews – 01:00:51
  • Rob Jamison – 01:03:33

Also racing on Sunday was Shaun Sumner, taking part in the Lincoln Triathlon.  The event was very popular, with 443 competitors taking part.  Shaun finished the race in a time of 01:17:26.  Great result Shaun, well done!

Sunday also saw runners taking to the start line.  Martha Moore was looking to score some further points in the Junior Run Championship, with her 2nd result of the season.  Martha scored some big points in a 13th place finish, in a time of 00:09:32.  Well done Martha!

Our final result of the weekend was at the Hardmoor Wainstones Half Marathon.  Sarah Jones took part in what looked to be an extremely challenging trail race.  Despite lots of climbs and cold weather to contend with, this didn’t hamper Sarah’s result, as she finished the race in 03:37:27.  Well done Sarah!

Weekend Summary 21st/22nd April

Slightly delayed results report this week, but some great results to report on from a very sunny last weekend’s racing, and during the week just gone.

Ahead of the weekend, Beth Grogan took part in the East Hull Harriers 5 Mile race, on the Tuesday night.  Beth put together another good run, racing against 229 other people, finishing in 00:38:26.

Not done with her running, Beth also took part in Goole Parkrun on the Saturday, finishing the 5km race in 00:22:55.  Great running on both counts Beth!

Into Sunday, and Alana Reveley was looking to improve on her early lead in the Junior Run Championship.  She did exactly that, in her 4th race of the season she improved on her score, finishing the parkrun in 9th place in 00:09:44.  Well done Alana!

Two of our Vikings this weekend really challenged themselves, not only taking part in a couple of very long events, but having to do it during an extremely hot weekend!

First up, Shelley Jamison took on the Stockton Duathlon, competing in the standard distance race.  Not for the faint hearted, the race was comprised of a 10km Run, 40km Bike and a 5km Run.  All the hard training miles Shelley put in paid off, as she finished the race in 02:32:04.  Brilliant Shelley, well done!

Also challenging herself this weekend was Helen Dews, who lined up with thousands of others in the heat of the London Marathon.  It is safe to say that the unexpectedly hot weather made the 26.2 miles that bit harder, but Helen wasn’t put off by this, finishing the race in 06:14:53.  Very impressive Helen, well done!

Moving beyond the weekend, there have also been some good mid week results to report on.

On Tuesday, the first race of the York and District Summer Race League kicked off with the Pocklington 10km.  Dave Burrows took part in the race, finishing the 10km with a time of 00:42:45.

Selby Cycling Club held the next in their TT series on Wednesday, this time over a 10 mile course.  Sarah Weston, Beth Grogan, Steven Dews and Shaun Sumner all took part in the event, with results as follows:

  • Steven Dews – 00:24:10
  • Shaun Sumner – 00:26:23
  • Sarah Weston – 00:28:28
  • Beth Grogan – 00:30:41

Weekend Summary 14th/15th April

We have our first triathlon results of the 2018 season, and great results they were too!

Before that, last week we had 2 runners out taking part in the new 5k run series, taking place at York Sport on a monthly basis.  Charlotte Moore and Dave Burrows took part in the event, which attracted some very fast runners from the area.  The winning time was 00:15:10, which was made even more impressive with the course measuring longer than 5km!   Charlotte finished the race in 00:24:53, and Dave in 00:21:03.  Some great results!

On Saturday, Sarah Jones continued her regular Parkrun events, this time taking part in the interestingly named Peter Pan Parkrun, based in Hull.  The event was equally as competitive as the other Hull events, with 229 people taking part.  Sarah finished the race in 00:28:09.  Great running Sarah!

In the final of the running events of the weekend, Sarah Weston took on the Vale of York 10 Mile, along with 1151 other runners.  Sarah put in a great run, finishing the race in 01:18:18, and scoring some big Run Championship points to top the standings.  Well done Sarah!

Into the triathlon events, and we had 2 competitors taking part in Epworth Sprint Triathlon.  Beth Grogan and Pawel Celinski looked to get some early triathlon points on the board, and ended up competing with each other, with Beth finishing in 31st place, and Pawel in 32nd!  Their times were 01:14:37 and 01:15:09 respectively.  Great results, well done!

Shaun Sumner also took on a sprint triathlon this weekend, racing in Southwell Triathlon.  Shaun started the season on a flyer, finishing his race in 01:01:31, including a very impressive run split.  Great race Shaun, well done!

Mark Wilson finished up the triathlon action from the weekend, racing in Skipton Triathlon.  Skipton has been a popular April event for a number of years, and is a real test of early season legs on some of the climbs.  Mark showed no signs of early season rust, finishing in 01:24:11.  Well done Mark!

Weekend Summary 7th/8th April

The multi-sport side of these season is beginning to come to life, with a handful more duathlons to report on this week, alongside our usual run results, and last night’s Selby CC TT race.

Before the weekend’s result, there was a missed result from Easter weekend.  On 31st March, Sarah Weston took part in the Selby Parkrun, finishing the 5km race in 00:23:41.  Well done Sarah!

Back to last weekend, and on Saturday 7th,  Dave Burrows and Sarah Jones were out competing in Parkrun events, in York and Hull respectively.   Both races were incredibly popular, attracting 423 competitors in York, and 583 in Hull.  Dave finished his 5km race in 00:21:27, and Sarah in 00:28:25.  Well done Sarah!

Also on the 7th, Beth Grogan kick started her multisport season at the RAF Scampton Duathlon.  In what looked to be a very competitive event, Beth put in a great performance, finishing her race in 01:19:16.  Well done Beth!

Moving into Sunday, and our first Junior Club Championship points of the season were up for grabs, as Martha Moore and Alana Reveley took part in the Holmfirth Junior Duathlon.  Both taking part in the Tristar 1 race, they did YVTT proud, with Martha finishing in 3rd and Alana finishing in 7th place.  Their times for the race were 00:15:19 for Martha, and 00:16:22 for Alana.  Brilliant both, well done!

Back to the running, and Sunday also saw Shelley Jamison and Stacey Calvert taking part in the Sheffield Half Marathon, along with a massive 5480 other people!  Shelley and Stacey both put in some great running over the hilly 13.1 miles, crossing the line together in 01:58:31.  Great running both well done!

Beyond the weekend, a number of Vikings were out last night taking part in the Selby CC TT, this time over a 6 mile course.  Steven Dews, Shaun Sumner and Sarah Weston all took part, finishing their races in 00:14:24, 00:15:49 and 00:17:48 respectively.  Another good event everyone, well done!
